Captain Marvel Star Teases the Sequel's Crazy Plot

Captain Marvel, Brie Larson, The Marvels

The first Captain Marvel film wasn’t well-received by many critics and fans, as many thought the film uneven, the villain weak, and the whole product a mediocre affair. Given the circumstances in which Brie Larson’s hero was introduced, it’s not much of a surprise that this was the response her outing received. But now, that’s all out of the way. The character is here, and her future endeavors aren’t jampacked between two of the biggest films of all time. Now is Carol Danvers’ time to shine.

Her next adventure will be in The Marvels, which premieres on February 17, 2023. This time, she’ll have some friends; along for the ride are Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau  from WandaVision and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel from her own upcoming solo series.

When it comes to what the trio are actually up against, well, that’s fairly unknown at this point. Leaks are nearly nonexistent; clearly, it’s a tighter ship than Spider-Man: No Way Home.

During an interview, Brie Larson took the chance to tease the bonkers ride that is her next film while leaving out any new details.

The Marvels Gets Bonkers

In an interview with Uproxx, MCU star Brie Larson was asked how she felt about not being able to say anything about her upcoming film The Marvels, despite being constantly asked about it by various outlets.

While praising director Nia DaCosta, Larson spoke about how she can share her feelings about the film rather than actually talking about specifics regarding the plot or characters:

“… I feel it’s like, I wish I could talk about it. I can talk about my feelings around it. I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future. And I could also say that when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers.”

The actress went on to say how she loves that Marvel “continue[s] to reinvent,” and that “when this film comes out, people are going to be delighted:”

“And it’s the thing that I love about Marvel, is that they continue to reinvent. They continue to do the thing that you just would never think would be possible in these films. And they’re not afraid to go there. So I’m super excited about what we did. I think there are some huge personal achievements of mine that I’m really excited about sharing, but you know, it’s fun to have a bit of a secret. And it’s fun to know that, when this film comes out, people are going to be delighted. And I get to keep that to myself for a little bit longer.”

Larson's Return in Captain Marvel 2

This obviously isn’t the first time an actor has claimed how “bonkers” their project is. Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen have done it for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, as has Paul Bettany for WandaVision.

Not that anyone can blame them—after all, there’s not much else the stars can say so far ahead of the release anyway. Especially with how little is known about The Marvels, all Brie Larson can comment on is her excitement for what everyone will eventually see.

There’s no doubt plenty of excitement amongst audiences worldwide to see her character back in action. While she had a cameo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, that hardly feels like a legitimate appearance.

While fans have to wait until February 17, 2023, for The Marvels, they can fill some of that time looking forward to the next MCU film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which releases on May 6 later this year.
