Disney Plus Daredevil Agents of SHIELD

While the debate about canon and non-canon is still a rabid one, MCU fans recently became ecstatic over the recent new additions fo Disney+. Specifically, after being taken off Netflix, the first era of Marvel streaming TV will officially make its way onto Disney+ for the foreseeable future. This means that all seven seasons of Agents of SHIELD and all six shows in the Defenders series, including Daredevil, are coming to the streaming network on March 16, 2022.

Agents of SHIELD helped start Marvel's venture into a larger expanded universe in 2013, including episodes that seemed to tie in directly with the events of the MCU starting in Phase 2. Lasting for 136 episodes before coming to an end in 2020, the series had plenty of twists and turns as the team went on wild adventures both on Earth and in space.

At the forefront of this effort on-screen was none other than Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, who became an instant fan favorite through appearances in four Phase 1 movies.

On the Netflix side, Daredevil became the first of half a dozen darker Marvel shows with Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio leading the way as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. The Man Without Fear teamed up with Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page to help protect Hell's Kitchen from the darkest crime the city had to offer as the show became a hit among fans.

Now, upon learning that their leading efforts are headed to a new home on Disney+, Gregg and Woll took the chance to share their excitement about the event.

SHIELD & Daredevil Now Home with MCU Counterparts

Clark Gregg has remained loyal to and passionate about the MCU over the years, even though Tom Hiddleston's Loki murdered Phil Coulson in The Avengers nearly a decade ago. That moment came up again as part of Hiddleston's solo series Loki after Gregg got to reprise a younger Coulson in 2019's Captain Marvel; he also revisited the role in two episodes of 2021's What If...?.

Even with all of these credits under his belt for Marvel Studios, Agents of SHIELD remains his only starring effort to date.

Gregg has regularly shared his thoughts on both the show's place in the MCU and the direction of the MCU as a whole after Agents of SHIELD ended its final season in August 2020. While he's unsure of the show's canon status after other entries like WandaVision, he continues to support the time he spent playing various versions of Agent/Director Coulson over the years.

That same passion comes from Woll, who appeared in nearly 50 combined episodes of Daredevil, The Defenders, and The Punisher between 2015 and 2019.

Woll had been at the forefront of supporting a potential Daredevil comeback, celebrating the show's success at every opportunity. She's openly expressed a willingness to return to her role if Marvel Studios decided to take that route, and she's received praise for her work from co-stars like Vincent D'Onofrio in the process.

Now that Gregg and Woll's shows are coming to Disney+, the debates about its canonicity to the larger MCU will only rage on more heavily as fans see it next to the MCU's movies and Phase 4 Disney+ shows. Even so, that won't stop the MCU mainstay from sharing his love and excitement for the work he put in as a character that so many fans love dearly.

Agents of SHIELD will be available to stream on Disney+ starting on March 16, 2022.
